International Civil Society Week (ICSW) is a key global gathering for civil society and other stakeholders to engage constructively in finding common solutions to global challenges. For the first time in more than 20 years of international convening, CIVICUS in partnership with the Pacific Islands Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (PIANGO) will hold its flagship event in the Pacific region.

Commonwealth Writers’ Conversations at the International Civil Society Week will highlight the transformative power of stories to help people make sense of events, engage with others, and take action to bring about change. The three conversations will animate the experiences of and provide new insights on the challenges faced by citizens from Small Island Developing States in the Caribbean and Large Ocean Nations in the Pacific.

The conversations will feature film, poetry, and prose focusing on the issues of:

Gender and Justice (5 Dec, 17.30-19.00)

The Legacy of Indenture (6 Dec, 14.00-16.00)

The Politics of Identity (6 Dec, 17.30-19.00)

Contributors to the conversations are involved with Commonwealth Writers projects, including: Commonwealth Shorts – Pacific Voices, So Many Islands anthology and the forthcoming Indentured labour anthology.
