About this piece
'Woven' reminds us that we are interconnected, 'one-to-the-other'. At a time where the world threatens to divide us over land and natural resources, we need to reclaim our humanity, understanding that we are not an island unto ourselves, but many threads woven together as one.
Woven into every fabric of my being
Like the connective tissue and fibres
Entwined in my DNA -
Our heritage
Our bloodline
Our legacy
Bind us
one-to-the-other
Who I am, who we are
All wrapped up in this melting pot - full of flavour
Rich in culture like the spice island
The vibrancy and colour of mas
The black gold spanning miles and miles
The smell of the Caribbean seas flowing all around us
The vitality of a people moving in sync to the rhythm of
iron and steel
tassa and drum - the heartbeat of a nation.
We are the threads knitted together
from island to island
country to continent
Unbroken
Resilient
Bold
Sharing our stories across the whole wide world.
