About this piece
Where Scars Glow is a poem about an African girl child in the village who grew up in poverty yet she worked hard to beat poverty but her path to success was characterized by pain and hurt from people around her yet she forged ahead strongly. Based on a true story.
Where Scars Glow
Where Scars Glow
Your dawn is come
Hers is yesterday's echo
Life’s around the sun
Hers is a painful circle
The pain that glows
Endless arrays of distress
Delineate her existence
Her soul bleeds
Yet she echoes not hurt
Because her scars glow
Bright she must act
Masking your daggers
As you pierce with intent
Because she’s different
Yet her scars shine
Smiling in contempt
She faces each dawn
For the day’s survival
Eyes on the goal
As her scars glow
A lioness so quiet
Brave and resilient
Light of her background
The epitome of the African girl child
Turning pain to light
