About this piece
A poetic meditation on the menstrual cycle as a sacred thread. Embodying creation, destruction, ancestry, and feminine power holding life and worlds together.
You can tell when the season is near
The air tingles
The skin glows
Radiant
People seem strangely unaffected yet affectionate
Soft touch
A glow
Then it hits. Hard
Approaching like a thief, ready to steal your prized possession
It forever takes you off guard
No matter how much preparation you make
It is never welcome.
And yet… it is a welcome sight
A reminder that it holds the power,
To create,
To break down.
The moment it stops, worlds are lost and cease to exist.
The thread that asks for no permission yet needs visibility.
At periods.
Knowing she is the becoming and the ending.
Understanding a power that is wielded in pain, in quiet, in movement, in the past, the present and the future.
It is a sacred covenant. known as a cycle
She is the continuation of time that can unravel all that is and was and could be.
She is the line for Kings and Queens, Legacy is her portion, Death and Life are in the thread she weaves.
Sometimes Uninvited
Yet Unstoppable.
Her Thread holds us together.
