About this piece
The Weaver is a poignant, poem about the role of The Weaver- The Queen-who through her power and role as Head of the Commonwealth, played a significant role in reinforcing links and bonds that strengthened the framework of the Commonwealth-just as any great weaver would.
The Queen’s finger quivers as she knits her quilt
Tightly threading a fabric bound by a common wealth
Myopic vision- seeing a future tied together by these threads
A true weaver, she knows that one single strand of thread doesn’t hold even a glimmer of power
But it is the coming together of a myriad of threads by the hands of the weaver, meandering through thread and time
Metaphors of threads don’t exist in theory, but they do create history
Or her story woven together by nations all stitched together
Their patched works, now in joint stories
Knitted- a now quintessential quilt
See that’s just how the work of the weaver goes
She knows that patches do not render a quilt any lesser in value
For threads bound by powerful cords cannot be broken
They can only tell tales of the weaver who knew their strength.
