About this piece
"The Unbroken Thread" weaves a tapestry of resilience, hope, and unity across the Commonwealth. This poetry collection explores themes of fragmentation and repair, celebrating the threads of culture, history, and human connection that bind us.
I. A Fabric of Uncertain Times
When the world frayed at the edges,
And trust grew thin as worn-out seams,
We sat beneath fragmented skies,
Holding needles and tattered dreams.
But listen—
In the silence, a hum began:
The loom of history, stretched again.
II. Thread Is...
Thread is the dancer’s leap—
A body arching, air to air,
Stitching space with gravity’s sweep.
Thread is the painter’s glare—
Where ochre meets indigo’s deep,
A canvas blooms beyond compare.
Thread is the poet’s breath—
Words spun like silk from trembling lips,
Binding sorrow, weaving faith.
Thread is the drummer’s grips—
Hands on skin where rhythms slip,
Pulsing hope through fingertips.
Thread is the farmer’s soil—
Seeds like beads on earth’s dark cloth,
Rooted stories, seasons’ toil.
Thread is the sailor’s oath—
Horizons drawn on starry froth,
A compass needle pointing both.
III. The Quilt We Inherit
Grandmothers hummed it into being—
Their songs, a warp of memory.
Children dyed it, bright and seeing,
With laughter’s vivid tapestry.
Piece by piece, they patched the tears,
Peace by peace, across the years.
IV. Your Hands Hold the Needle Now
So thread your light, photographer—
Capture dawn on a dew-strung web.
Thread your rage, truth-teller—
Knot injustice till it ebbs.
Thread your joy, street-singer—
Let a chorus from the gutter rise,
And stitch the pavement back together.
Thread the resilience of your street,
The recipe your mother repeats,
The protest chant that shakes the square,
The lullaby that drowns despair.
Thread the courage in your veins,
The monsoon’s rage, the desert’s strains—
Every strand a sacred vow:
“I am here. I am now.”
V. The Tapestry Unfolds
We are not finished. Never done.
This quilt is passed from sun to sun.
Each generation adds its hue—
Gold of courage, blue of true,
Green of growth, and red of scars,
White of hope among the stars.
So thread your story, bold and wild,
Thread the future of a child.
Thread the bridge, the song, the prayer—
Leave your signature in air.
For when we weave, we mend, we rise,
With threads of love before our eyes—
One fabric, countless hands,
Across the sea, across the lands.
And when the last knot’s tied at length,
We’ll weep not sorrow—but joy’s full strength:
“Together—piece by piece by peace—
We are one.
And the quilt grows on.”
