About this piece
This poem talks about humanity and its differences. It portrays how all humans can lay aside their differences and become one . It also shows how peaceful and beautiful humanity can become if only we become one. Beauty in humanity comes from our history, culture and diversity.
RAGS, HELD BY STITCHES
Rags_
Torn by shades hate and unique beauty
Portrayed as entities of conflict and division
Clothed with differences we cannot ignore
Loomed with an essence of unique beauty
But when joined
Is it a beautified blend or a question of difference?
Rags_
Blended with different threads
Saturated by history and culture
A collection of vibrant hues tell the story of each rag
A story of war, power love and greatness
However, in the midst of all this difference
There’s a quiet line that binds what was never meant to stay apart
Rags_
Coated in individual vibrance
When joined become a beautiful quilt
Connected by difference, they form a structured masterpiece
Oh, how difference creates such glorious art_
Why then do we keep these rags apart?
Beauty emanates from difference
Not the self-boasting of individual sparks
Rags_
A thread can bind you together and make you a powerful art
Don’t be fooled by your different colours
Your beauty is beyond what meets the eye
How much does it cost to be one?
Just a stitch that can’t be torn
Rags of difference make your mark
Your beauty stand to make a change
Give it a chance
