About this piece
To grow healthy, organic poultry while empowering women and youth, promoting sustainable farming, and improving the nutrition and livelihoods of our community.
From Eggs to Empowerment
Jamila had always dreamed of creating a farm that didn’t just produce food, but also helped her community. She started her organic poultry project in Kano with just a small batch of chickens. At first, it was harder than she imagined—some chickens got sick, feed costs were high, and local farmers doubted her “organic” methods.
Instead of giving up, Jamila learned from every mistake. She attended training sessions, experimented with natural supplements, and involved local youth in the daily farm activities. Slowly, the chickens thrived, producing healthier eggs, and word spread about her high-quality organic products.
But the impact went beyond the farm. Jamila offered jobs and training to young people, especially women, teaching them sustainable farming practices. Families began using her organic feed methods at home, improving nutrition in the community.
Years later, her small poultry project became a model of how one person’s persistence, combined with sustainable methods, could transform both a business and the lives of many around her.
