About this piece
supporting woman through traditionalskills and cultural knowledge .
I come from Tonga and now live in Fiji, where I continue the tradition of making tapa — known as ngatu in my culture. Tapa is more than a craft; it is our identity, our history, and the voice of our ancestors.
Every pattern we create carries meaning. It tells stories of family, land, respect, and the strength of women. As women, we gather, we work together, and we pass these skills down from generation to generation. Through our hands, culture stays alive.
In my work, I not only create tapa but also empower other women by sharing knowledge and creating opportunities for them to be part of this journey. My vision is to build a space where culture, wellness, and tradition come together — where visitors can experience our way of life, our food, our stories, and our art.
This piece represents the strength of women in the Pacific — how we hold our families, preserve our culture, and continue to create beauty from what comes from the land.
Each thread in this quilt is a voice. This is mine.
