About this piece
Original
English translation
A story about the heartbreaking chasm that separates dreams from reality.

“You have to do your homework,” says the mother, “it’s necessary for a bright future.” The daughter thinks about it for a moment. “And you, Mom, did you do your homework when you were a kid?” “Yes,” says the mother, “yes, I worked hard and was always at the top of my class.” “And Dad too?” “Of course! He got very good grades on all his exams.” “But if this is a bright future, Mom,” says the daughter, looking at the shabby house, the empty kitchen cupboard, and her parents’ weathered faces covered in deep wrinkles, “I don’t want it, please. I don’t want it.”
