About this piece
Written in a Maltese folklore style (mentioning maltese song: Xi gmiel ta fjuri) weaves Maltese crafts, the history of the Mosta dome with an experience to the Edinburgh military tattoo where countries collaborate and excel in precision, good cuisine, safaris and connections
During my flight to London
I saw the Mosta dome
Built with Maltese limestone
By many tourists known
As Germans attacked Malta
And a bomb fell on the ground
Which shattered the stained glass but
But left everyone safe and sound
I thought of my own wedding
Music as I walked up the aisle
In a dress full cutwork
On a red carpet with a smile
The veil made of bobbin lace
Stitched by hand with so much love
Xi gmiel ta’ fjuri - orchids
Holding flowers and a glove
Connections made it possible
To visit the crown jewels
Spoken words made it easier
Enjoyed feeding the squirrels
I took a train to Scotland
For the miliary tattoo
Pipes, drums, parades, precision
Queen Elizabeth was there too
Countries working for same goal
Collectively forming teams
Scottish highland beef fillet
For a honeymoon of dreams
We went for a safari
With a camera in my hand
Massive elephants, giraffes
Animal from every land
Off we went to Canada
to explore another world
to paint the Niagara falls
I wanted time not end
And now I am back to Malta
Recounting my memories
As I hold carved souvenirs
Brought from foreign territories
