About this piece
A poem celebrating Bangladesh’s spirit of empathy and solidarity in the Commonwealth quilt. Through support for Rohingya refugees and advocacy for Palestine, it highlights how compassion, humanity, and unity can help stitch a more caring world.
An unknown thread
Don’t you think?
Earth is a vibrant giant quilt !!
Made with stories-
that show, how diversely it is built?
Every nation stitches
A diverse light,
Of brightest days,
Of darkest nights.
Let me add a thread more,
Of a country named Bangladesh,
You didn’t hear of before.
Though as a nation we are small,
We do not flee away,
When our neighbours suffer a downfall.
We did not stay quiet,
When Rohingya lives were at stake,
We reached out to help—
our resolve did not shake.
Through our actions
We knitted amity,
and sewed solidarity.
Let’s hear our story of empathy,
Because we don’t know,
How to show apathy.
When Palestine was burning,
We were also hurting.
Our souls were yearning,
We didn’t step back from helping.
For their least convenience,
Our people are working.
For their freedom;
we still are praying.
Through our kindness,
we wove benevolence,
we intend to weave
The long forgotten humanity
a soulful essence
