সুন্দরবন
পৃথিবী এখানে ঘুমিয়ে থাকে- জেগে থাকে একটি নদী- ঝরনার ভাষায় সে কথা বলে, পাখিরা এখানে বৃক্ষের মমতায় ডানা মেলে- জেগে থাকে একটি অরণ্য- পাতার বাঁশিতে সে সুর তোলে, প্রসব কাতর মাছেরা এখানে আশ্রয় খোঁজে- জেগে থাকে একটি জলঘুঘু- ক্ষুধার চোখে সে রোদ পান করে;
এখানে বাতাসের সাথে জল কণারা কথা বলে, নারীদের কান্না নদীর কান্নার সাথে মিশে যায়, সন্ধ্যা হলে গাছেরা বনিতাদের ন্যায় চুল বেঁধে অপেক্ষা করে নতুন কোনো প্রেমিকের, জোয়ার এলে মাঝ নদীতে নৌকা দোলে কেবল, যেমন ওপারে ঝড় এলে প্রাচীন ঘরগুলো নড়বড় করে মাটির উপরে দাঁড়ানো গাছেদের ন্যায়, মানুষের মনও বিপদের সময় খুব বেশি উত্তাল হয়, সদ্য হাঁটতে শেখা শিশুটির ন্যায় বার বার পড়ে যায় যেন, অথবা নতুন গজিয়ে ওঠা সেই লতাটির ন্যায় যে সামান্য বাতাসে হেলে হেলে পড়ে যায় শুধু;
এখানে গভীর বনে কিশোর-কিশোরীর ন্যায় আলো আর ছায়া খুনসুটিতে মেতে থাকে, অজস্র ফড়িং ওড়ে- বন্য ফুলেরা বিছিয়ে রাখে বেহেশতি বিছানা, কুমারী লতা লাজুক বধূটির ন্যায় কেবল আনমনে দেখে চারপাশ, বহুবিধ লতারা ছড়িয়ে রাখে তাদের জীবন সংসার, মাংসাশি প্রাণিদের দেখে ব্যাঙেরা পথ করে দেয়; শত্রুর গন্ধ পেলে নিজেকে বদলায় বহুরূপী কীটেরা, ধ্রুপদী সুরে গাছের আড়াল থেকে গান গেয়ে চলে এক গায়ক পাখি; সবুজ পাতারা অনবরত হাসাহাসি করে সহোদর বোনেদের সাথে;
এখানে বাঘের কামড়ে মারা যাওয়া হরিণের শেষ চিৎকার শোনা যায়, বহু দূর দেশ থেকে পণ্য নিয়ে আসে নতুন কোনো জাহাজ, সেই জাহাজের নাবিকের মনে পড়ে বাড়িতে রেখে আসা অভিমানী সঙ্গিনীর কথা, হঠাৎ বৃষ্টি নেমে এলে সেই রমণী ভিজে শরীর জুড়ায়, কিন্তু, তার মনটি কেবল অস্থির হয়ে গর্জে ওঠে বজ্র মেঘের ন্যায়, বিদ্যুৎ চমকায় বনের কোনো খাঁড়ির ওপর, মেঘ থামলে ঠিক তার বিপরীতে ভেসে ওঠে রঙধনু;
এখানে আমার কুমারী মা জেগে থাকে, ধরিত্রীর ন্যায় সন্তানের সব গ্লানি যে নিরবে সয়ে যায়, কেবল শুকনো পাতা খসার শব্দ শোনা যায়;

English translation
Sundarbans
Here, the world lies asleep—
But a river stirs,
Speaking in the tongue of waterfalls.
Birds unfurl their wings in the arms of trees.
A forest keeps vigil,
Whistling through leaves like a breath of bone flutes.
Fish, heavy with birth, seek refuge.
A lone waterfowl sips the sun
With eyes sharpened by hunger.
Here, the wind and water murmur secrets.
Women’s weeping dissolves into the river's wail.
At dusk, the trees bind their hair
Like maidens awaiting unknown lovers.
The tide rocks the boats midstream—
Just as old houses sway in the storm
Like rootless trees.
And the human heart too—
In danger, it stumbles like a toddler,
Or bends like a newborn vine
Before the careless breath of wind.
In the thicket, light and shadow bicker
Like boy and girl,
While dragonflies scatter,
And wildflowers lay out heaven’s linen.
A virgin vine,
Like a shy bride, surveys the world.
Other creepers spill their households in all directions.
The frogs step aside for carnivores.
The chameleons morph at the scent of blood.
A hidden singer spills ancient songs
In the hush behind a tree.
Leaves gossip and giggle,
Sisters in green.
Here, the final cry of a deer,
Felled by a tiger’s fang,
Still echoes.
A ship groans in from faraway lands,
Its sailor thinking of a sulking lover
He left back home.
A sudden rain—
And she stands soaked, soothed in flesh,
But her mind rages
Like a thundercloud.
Lightning lashes across a mangrove creek.
Then—silence.
A rainbow arches against the hush.
Here, my virgin mother keeps watch,
Like the earth—
Swallowing all her child’s shame
Without a sound.
Only the fall of dry leaves
Breaks the silence.
.................................
Cloud Raga
A sudden rain,
Two hearts, one lane,
One umbrella, just in case—
But wind had other plans in place.
Hands brush hands, a nervous sway,
Blushing words they dare not say.
The umbrella flies—a startled kite,
Lost to the storm’s delighted flight.
Thunder claps with jealous might,
They draw in close, gripped with fright.
A tremble, then a breathless hush,
A kiss beneath the monsoon’s rush.
The sky pours down in silver streams,
A holy flood of broken dreams—
Or blessings, soft and undefined,
As lips met lips and hearts aligned.
