My Beautiful God

About this piece
Like newborns cry for their mothers, our hearts long for the divine. The One who created the human soul is the only One that can truly give it rest.
If we can trust the seasons, if we are awed by the incredible power and beauty of nature, then we can trust the One who made them.
Tossing and turning on my sweaty bed
Tormented by treacherous mosquitoes
Torn between my ideals and the daily cares of life
I turn my thoughts to You my Lord
Searching desperately for relief
My fantastic God
How beautiful You are
You are beautiful in the Stars
That stubbornly shine in the deepest darkness of the night
Refusing to be blackened by the darkness around them
You are beautiful in the Moon
That sits in the heavens like a royal queen
Never begging for worship, but commanding
reverence by her silent majesty
You are gloriously beautiful in the Sun
Whose overpowering presence intimidates
anyone who tries to look upon his glory
I see Your beauty in man-made works
The wonderfully sculpted works of art
The wonders of architecture
The dynamic fashions and styles of every generation
They are no less beautiful than the raw materials they were made from
I see Your beauty in man
The crown prince and heir of Your creation
Creating and recreating just like You
his heavenly Father
Whatever he can imagine, he can create
For, incubating it from generation to generation
he finally brings forth another wonder
Even in me, Your humble creature
You are beautiful
You lead me from day to day
From glory to glory
And, as You give me, Your beloved, sleep
I drift into a beautiful night rest
