About this piece
I wrote the poem 'Sexy' to celebrate the attraction or sex appeal of an English white woman in the eyes of an African Nigerian man. It's a picture of interracial love in the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth is a collection of nations and people of all races.
I called you White Sugar,
Because on the outside you're White,
But on the inside you're full of sugar.
Winter doesn't look so cool anymore,
Because as long as I'm around you,
You're the coolest thing around!
Be my queen, be my QueenBee,
Be my bug, be my Ladybug.
I see the River Niger overflowing its banks
And flooding my mind with thoughts of you.
It's like my mind is made up of rainbows,
Because visions of you break down my mind into colors.
And now my mind is turning pink, and blue and red and green.
Everything is blurred, because you make me go crazy.
You're the bug in my smile,
The glitch in my daydreams.
You make my visions of you malfunction.
And now I'm seeing flames instead of you.
Everything is blazing, because you set my whole world on fire.
Water is never enough,
It's the taste of you that quenches my thirst.
Now I'm trapped in the sun,
Because like a sunflower,
I'm hungry for your light.
But the reality is that the sun is just another version of you,
Another version of White Sugar!
And the nights we spend together are just another version of sexy,
Another version of you!
