The Breakout Prize

The Epiphany Literary Magazine have announced that they are accepting submissions to the 2026 Breakout Prize for Poetry and Prose.

The Breakout Prize brings visibility to and supports outstanding early-career writers who have not yet published a full-length book. Previous winners have gone on to sign with literary agents, publish at esteemed presses, win prizes, receive fellowships, and develop rich and rewarding literary careers. Previous judges include Victoria Chang, Hilary Leichter, Mauel Munoz, Shane McCrae, and Safiya Sinclair.

To apply you must not be signed with an agent, be in contract for or have published a full-length book with a traditional publisher. Chapbooks, self-published, and hybrid-published books are permissible. Submissions must be previously unpublished and written primarily in English.

They are offering 50 fee waivers, available via the contact form on their website, to applicants who are facing financial hardship.

The overall winner of the prize will receive $1,000. Entries are open to all and the deadline for submissions is 15 April 2026.
