Oxbelly 2026 Fiction Writers Retreat
The Fiction Writers Program of the Oxbelly Retreat supports ten emerging fictional prose writers committed to elevating their craft, strengthening their literary voice, and contributing to intercultural dialogues around storytelling. Fellows engage in workshops and craft sessions led by faculty and guests who are themselves established and acclaimed writers and industry leaders, followed by unstructured time to write in the serene and transformative environment the Messinian scenic landscape offers. In the evenings, fellows will attend interdisciplinary programming – a curated series of sessions exploring the craft of writing, readings, screenings and panel discussions that cut across multiple mediums. The application materials include a short bio, a writer’s statement and a writing sample of unpublished fictional prose.
The 2026 Fiction Writers program is led by Program Director Chigozie Obioma. Past advisors and special guests include: Rebecca Makkai, Anuradha Roy, Nadifa Muhamed, Isabelle Hammad, Katie Kitamura, Fiammetta Rocco and Bill Clegg, among others. The program has no cost to apply and all expenses including flights, accommodation and meals, are covered by Oxbelly.
Applications are open now for l writers with a deadline of January 14, 2026 at 11:59 PM EET, Athens, Greece.
