How we are helping

We are supporting TMWC to strengthen leadership, internal systems, and strategic planning capabilities to ensure long-term sustainability.

About the project

The Foundation’s capacity strengthening grants stream supports smaller Commonwealth civil society organisations in smaller Member States, building their expertise and enhancing their capacity to influence policy.

Toledo Maya Women’s Council (TMWC) promotes educational programs and empowerment opportunities for indigenous women. To remain responsive and effective, TMWC aims to enhance its organisational capacity and adaptability in a rapidly evolving work environment by prioritising the implementation of structured capacity-building strategies. With this grant, TMWC will hold capacity planning workshops, develop training materials, and hire consultants to support leadership training, strategic planning and systems development.

The key actions for this project are:

  • Conducting capacity planning workshops to develop and design training materials.
  • Developing Terms of Reference for technical consultants and human resources support.
  • Hiring technical support personnel to assist in strategic execution.
  • Preparing a training package tailored to leadership and operational needs.
  • Delivering leadership and organisational development training to the TMWC leadership team.
  • Engaging a consultant to prepare a comprehensive work plan comprising:
    • Fundraising strategy
    • Strategic planning
    • Communication and mobilisation strategy
    • Leadership and skills development
    • Monitoring and evaluation
    • Data analysis training

As a result of the project, it is hoped that TMWC will be better equipped to adapt to changing environments through enhanced leadership, improved systems, and strategic direction. Improved organisational efficiency and sustainability will help TMWC expand its reach, better engage stakeholders, and increase the impact of its work across Belize.
