Issue
Women Unlimited seeks to strengthen advocacy against technology-facilitated gender-based violence and expand its reach through enhanced digital monitoring and reporting tools.
How we are helping
We are supporting Women Unlimited to train staff in gender inclusion, develop an advocacy strategy, and build a digital platform to monitor online abuse.
About the project
The Foundation’s capacity strengthening grants stream supports smaller Commonwealth civil society organisations in smaller Member States, building their expertise and enhancing their capacity to influence policy.
Women Unlimited is a civil society organisation dedicated to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in Eswatini. The organisation is working to strengthen its advocacy and community outreach by addressing technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). This grant will support Women Unlimited to scale their impact and better support vulnerable groups, by strengthening internal capacity, developing tailored tools, and delivering inclusive staff training.
The key actions for this project are:
- Training and inclusion
- Engaging an LGBTQ+ facilitator to train staff in gender-inclusive principles and safe provision.
- Delivering ‘training of trainers’ sessions on cybercrime and TFGBV.
- Strategy and policy development
- Hiring a consultant to develop an organisational TFGBV strategy and integrate it into broader advocacy work.
- Outreach and digital tools
- Developing a digital platform to monitor and report online abuse.
- Training university change champions and peer educators to expand programme outreach.
As a result of the project, it is hoped that Women Unlimited will be better equipped to address TFGBV through an enhanced advocacy strategy and improved outreach tools. Staff will have strengthened skills to engage diverse communities and respond to online abuse. The digital platform will amplify efforts to reduce sexual harassment and improve reporting, especially within LGBTQ+ communities and higher education institutions.
