How we are helping

This project will aim to pay tribute to La Soufriere, and create a platform for local artists, through the production of a visual and literary arts festival.

About the project

La Soufriere volcano is a symbol of national pride and a defining element of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ shared identity. Yet, to date, there are no cultural events celebrating its significance.

Youlou Arts Foundation will organise a festival of visual, literary, and performing arts to celebrate the volcano’s cultural significance. The project will facilitate creative discussions about the volcano among artists and writers through a series of workshops.

As a result of the project, it is hoped that a sustainable platform for artists and writers to engage with communities is created, celebrating Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ artistic and literary heritage and ensuring cultural preservation.

Project Partners
Youlou Arts Foundation

Vincy Writers

Vincy Writers is focused on highlighting Vincentian work in the local, regional and international literary space. It is dedicated to the amplification of Vincentian writing on identity, gender and landscape; using orality to examine the experiences of the marginalised and vulnerable, and centring storytelling as an instrument for advocacy.
