How we are helping

This project aims to provide writers with publication opportunities, workshops and support to participate in literary festivals.

About the project

While Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has a rich literary tradition, local writers face limited access to funding, mentorship and publishing opportunities. These challenges limit writers’ ability to use storytelling as a tool for documenting history, addressing social issues, and giving voice to underrepresented communities.

This project will invite entries into a short story competition on the theme of the impact of the April 2021 La Soufriere eruption. Winning and shortlisted entries will be published in a special anthology and distributed nationally. The project will also deliver workshops on the impact of the eruption and offer sponsorship opportunities for Vincentian writers to attend international writing festivals.

As a result of this project, it is hoped that Vincentian writers will be empowered to develop and promote their work, accessing global opportunities for networking and publication, and fostering literary engagement among local communities.
