KITFest Play-writing Competition

As part of our milestone celebrations, The Kenya International Theatre Festival Trust (KITFest Trust) is thrilled to announce a special Playwriting Competition.

We are searching for original, innovative, and thought-provoking plays that showcase the diverse talent and creativity of Kenyan playwrights. Whether you’re an emerging writer or an established playwright, this competition is your chance to shine on the international stage

The competition does not have a designated theme. All interested playwrights are welcome to submit their works on any theme or topic of their choice.

Are you a passionate playwright with a knack for storytelling? Do you have a compelling script waiting to be brought to life on stage? The Kenya International Theatre Festival Trust (KITFest Trust) invites playwrights from all corners of Kenya to participate in our prestigious Playwriting Competition as we mark the KITFest 10th anniversary in November 2025.

Timeline:

Announcement: 1 July 2024
Submission Deadline: 31 August,2024
Winners Announcement: November 2024 (during KITFest2024)

Prize:

10 Best Plays will be selected as winners. Each winner will receive a cash prize of Kes. 100,000.
