Design for Climate: British Council and Villa Karo 2026

In partnership with Villa Karo, British Council are inviting applications from design professionals based in the UK, Nigeria, and Ghana for an interdisciplinary residency program in Benin in the spring of 2026. This initiative seeks to address climate challenges through collaborative practice and cross-cultural exchange.

They are supporting two designers—one UK-based and one West African-based (from Nigeria or Ghana)—to spend eight weeks at Villa Karo, the Finnish Institute for West Africa.

The residency runs from 23 March to 17 May 2026. A later start date may be possible for selected applicants.

This residency opportunity includes:

  • Full residency services at Villa Karo
  • Private accommodation with breakfast, cleaning, and laundry
  • Return travel costs to Benin
  • A stipend of £1,000 per person for daily expenses
  • Support for creative production costs
  • Networking opportunities with local and international artists.
