A Lens on the Climate Crisis in Africa

Mayowa Adebote (Nigeria) is an environmentalist and documentary photographer with extensive experience in local and international projects in Nigeria. His works are focused on documenting humanitarian and development-related projects. He is currently working on Project Climagraphy, a project aimed at documenting the realities of climate change across Nigeria.

Adam Ali Adam (Cameroon) was born in 1995 in Ngodéni, Cameroon. He holds a degree in Information and Communication Sciences from the University of Maroua, Cameroon. 

Ernest Ankomah (Ghana) is a freelance photojournalist based in Accra, Ghana. His work explores the realities of everyday life in his community and region, as he sheds light on topics he is passionate about, such as health, education and climate change.

Gabriel Bell-Gam (Nigeria) is a documentary photographer and member of the African Photojournalism Database (World Press Photo), from Opobo Kingdom, Nigeria. He graduated in Computer Science and Mathematics from Rivers State University, Nigeria, and is currently a Postgraduate Diploma student studying IT at National Open University, Nigeria. 

John Chipango (Zambia) is passionate about the environment and using platforms to highlight environmental issues.

Rose Cross (Malawi) is a journalist and blogger based in the northern city of Mzuzu. She is currently working with the Ministry of Information’s Malawi News Agency.

Amilton Neves Cuna (Mozambique) is an award-winning photographer and visual anthropologist from Maputo, Mozambique. Through storytelling and documentary techniques he examines contemporary societal issues and pays particular attention to those most marginalised. Mozambique’s two deadly cyclones of 2019, merely a month apart, prompted him to also focus on the subject of climate change.

Dilma De Faria (Mozambique) is an amateur photographer, who started taking photographs in lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Daniel Dlamini (Eswatini) first started photographing landscapes as a hobby, and now pursues it full-time, building a career in Eswatini from his intense passion for the craft. He has worked with individuals, non-profit organisations and large companies to help bring their visions to life.

Patricia Hokororo (Tanzania) is a street and travel photographer, who documents ‘visual love stories’ of all that she calls home. She is known for her vibrant and soulful style, and it is her fascination and appreciation of humanity that fuels her passion.  

John Kakandelwa (Zambia) is CEO of Powering Young Initiatives, a not-for-profit organisation in Zambia. Through this work he seeks to invest in children by supporting efforts to guarantee better futures for them and their communities, mainly by providing knowledge on climate change, advocacy and accountability

Abdiwahid Kadir (Kenya) is an award-winning, freelance storyteller. He is passionate about depicting time in its most memorable moments.

Kisa Kasifa (Uganda) works and lives in Kampala. She is currently a student at Makerere University where she is undertaking a Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies. She describes herself as an amateur photographer, who hopes to use photography to tell stories.

Joseph Kipsang (Kenya) is a photojournalist working with The Standard newspaper in Kenya. He photographs everything from wildlife and nature to sports and culture, and came second in the technology category of Agility’s 2016 Africa Photo Competition.

Richmond Korang (Ghana) is a graduate student pursuing his Master’s in Environmental Management and Policy at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. He is also a research assistant at the Centre for Coastal Management, University of Cape Coast. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences

Adnan Koroma (Sierra Leone) is a portrait photographer based in Freetown, with a passion to tell stories about his environment.

Joseph Mizere (Malawi) is a freelance photojournalist with more than two years’ experience, and versed in producing for multiple digital media platforms, social media and online platforms.  

Anthony Onyango (Kenya) is an award-winning wildlife ecologist, educator, conservation photographer and filmmaker based in Nairobi, Kenya. His work reflects his interest in nature, and he seeks to foster conversations across all ages, races, and genders. Ultimately, he hopes to create awareness on wildlife conservation through photography, film and science.  

Gerald Otim (Uganda) is a photographer from Uganda. ‘I walk. I look. I see. I stop. I photograph.’

Bukunmi Oyewole (Nigeria) is a Nigerian travel and documentary photographer and a visual storyteller who loves to see the world through the lens of his camera. His works primarily spotlight present day realities in Africa.

Erica Pem (Cameroon) is currently a Master’s student at the International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC). She is interested in climate issues, particularly in the effects of climate change on water resources in Central Africa. As such, since 2020, she has been involved in various youth-led organisations focusing on environmental protection. 

Jason Smith (South Africa) is an amateur photographer.

Sebastian Tembo (Zambia) is a creative and professional photographer. He specialises in documentary, fashion and portrait photography. He also has interests in cinematography. 

Eliya Uzia (Tanzania) is an award-winning conservation photographer and director of photography based in Tanzania. He specialises in conservation storytelling through wildlife photography, film and documentary making. He has worked with both local and international organisations, as well as mentoring local photographers.
