How we are helping

We are supporting Garden of Rebirth to train staff in media advocacy, develop a communications plan, and enhance its online presence through new platforms and equipment.

About the project

The Foundation’s capacity strengthening grants stream supports smaller Commonwealth civil society organisations in smaller Member States, building their expertise and enhancing their capacity to influence policy.

Garden of Rebirth works to promote social justice and amplify the voices of communities through advocacy and outreach. To expand their impact and reach, the organisation has identified a need to strengthen its communications capacity, particularly in digital media. With this grant, Garden of Rebirth will deliver strategic training in social media and advocacy for its team and community leaders, and develop a communications plan to guide future campaigns. These efforts will enhance the organisation’s visibility, stakeholder engagement, and ability to influence policy.

The key actions for this project are:

  • Planning and strategy development
  • Conducting planning sessions with the advocacy team to identify key media strategies.
  • Developing a communication action plan with leadership involvement.
  • Creating a timeline for media advocacy activities and identifying responsible team members.
  • Training and capacity building
  • Delivering strategic communications training to 20 participants, including directors, staff, youth leaders and advocates.
  • Conducting media mapping and audience research to inform campaign design.
  • Digital presence and equipment
  • Enhancing the organisation’s Facebook presence and expanding onto YouTube, TikTok and Twitter.
  • Procuring laptops and tablets for trained staff to support media advocacy and monitoring.

As a result of the project, it is hoped that Garden of Rebirth will strengthen its media advocacy efforts, resulting in more engaging and targeted campaigns. Trained staff and community leaders will use social media more effectively to mobilise support, raise awareness, and influence policy-makers. These improvements will boost stakeholder engagement, attract new supporters, and position the organisation for greater impact.

Garden of Rebirth

The Garden of Rebirth, located in Saint Christopher and Nevis, was registered as a non-governmental organisation in 2015. It was founded by Mrs Etsu Bradshaw-Caines who, with the help of grants, transformed her grandmother’s home into a resource for the community, serving as a place of refuge for women and children subjected to circumstances that are unsafe.
