Issue
Additional governance and staffing capacity would give Samoa Victim Support (SVSG) greater direction and further improve their vital work representing victims of crime.
How we are helping
We are supporting SVSG to strengthen its governance and train staff on core processes.
About the project
The Foundation’s capacity strengthening grants stream supports smaller Commonwealth civil society organisations in smaller Member States, building their expertise and enhancing their capacity to influence policy.
SVSG has developed a reputation for effectively using limited resources to assist victims of crime. Unfortunately, resource pressures mean staff have few opportunities for training and development. The board are dedicated volunteers who sometimes lack the time to fully engage with SVSG’s work or review important documents. We are working with SVSG to strengthen governance and provide development opportunities for staff.
The key actions for this project are:
- Staff training on important processes:
- proposal writing
- financial management
- policy review
- Hiring consultants to review and assess strategic documents
- Delivering workshops for the board to engage with capacity strengthening processes
As a result of the project, board members will have an improved understanding of SVSG’s operation. Staff and board members will complete core processes more effectively.
