Issue

In Lesotho, the absence of adequate arts development programmes and high-quality art works jeopardises the growth and sustainability of the arts sector. This means there is a real and urgent need to strengthen the skills and capacity of the performing arts industry locally.

How we are helping

This project will build the capacity of young theatre practitioners in practical and theoretical skills, and provide seed funding to support the creation of new work, thus contributing to the development of the performing arts in Lesotho.

About the project

The core aim of the project is to support the development of strong drama and arts programmes in schools across the country. This will be achieved by strengthening and empowering young people; ten theatre practitioners will receive professional training in performance skills and arts leadership, to develop their critical thinking and creative imaginations. They will also be given funding to produce quality work and implement these new skills in practice. The hope is that this will spark and/or revive performance culture across Lesotho.
