Siale joined the Commonwealth Foundation in 2017.

He assists in the management and delivery of the Foundation’s Grants Programme, and manages a portfolio of grants. Siale has a special interest in pro-poor development policy, building local participatory processes and facilitating policy advocacy by marginalized and isolated communities.

He brings to the Foundation over 8 years of experience in international development.

Most recently, he represented Tonga as a diplomat (advocating its interests, policy agenda and development priorities) in the UK and Europe at bilateral and multilateral levels. Prior to that, he worked in Rome and the Pacific with the UN specialized agency and international financing institution, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). He established IFAD’s Sub-Regional Office in the Pacific and helped manage and develop IFAD’s programme portfolio as its Sub-Regional Coordinator for eleven Pacific Island countries.

Siale has a B.A in Modern Languages (French/Spanish literature) from Oxford University, a Masters in International Affairs specialising in Development Studies from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris, and a Masters in Public Administration from Syracuse University where he was a Fulbright scholar. Suva, Fiji is home.

In his spare time, Siale enjoys playing basketball and singing with his son Tahi on the ukulele. More often than not, they both sing out of tune.
