Amna has ten years of experience in providing policy and programme advice on democracy, peacebuilding and human rights to non-governmental, governmental, and intergovernmental organisations. She has previously worked for Oxfam, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Commonwealth Secretariat, and has volunteered at the National Council for Civil Liberties. Amna has particularly enjoyed working with civil society on peacebuilding in Pakistan and observing elections in Sri Lanka. She is a passionate advocate of fundamental political and civil freedoms.
Amna has recently bid farewell to a career in diplomacy to finish writing a novel she started six years ago. Needless to say she strongly believes in the power of creative expression to bring happiness to lives, be they individual or collective.
Amna has a postgraduate degree in international development law and human rights. She is from Pakistan and speaks Urdu, Sindhi and Punjabi.
